I’ve never linked to another’s site or posted one of these buttons to remind myself to pray for someone, but Joanne Heim, author and speaker at The Simple Wife really needs a miracle.

I don’t know Joanne, but I know of her.  She and her husband were a part of Mission for a brief time while we were getting settled here in Arizona – Toben (her husband) was on staff at the church and Joanne was an accomplished author.  Toben took a position in Denver and their whole family moved probably sometime in the late summer.

Joanne’s situation was brought to my attention by church friends on Facebook – she was out running and had a massive stroke shortly thereafter.  The surgeons at the hospital successfully removed the clot from her brain and they’ve been praying for her recovery.  There were complications of swelling in her brain and she went back in to surgery to remove part of her skull to give her brain somewhere to go as it swelled.  She’s now in a medically-induced coma in order to give her brain a chance to heal and shrink back to normal.

Despite the fact that I don’t know Joanne or Toben, my heart breaks for them.  Ten years ago, I was the one in ICU with tubes and stuff sticking out of me – and doctors couldn’t say whether I’d survive or not.  Thanks to the prayers of faithful friends, God saw fit to preserve my life.  I’m eternally grateful for those prayers and because of my own personal set of miracles (which included learning to walk again), I feel for Joanne’s family strongly.  I know God still heals and I know He still works miracles – and I want so very, very badly for Joanne to sit up in bed and be perfectly well.  Many people worldwide are praying for the same things.

If our prayers aren’t answered in the way we’d like, it won’t be for lack of asking.  I don’t understand God’s ways many times, but I know His plan is perfect, even if it’s different than I desire.  But I’m not going to stop asking – her family needs her.

If you’re the praying type, would you please pray for Joanne?  And if you’re on Twitter, you can follow the hashtag #prayingforjoanne for updates.

I just read Joanne’s last two posts on her “Simple Wife” blog. She and her family could really use prayers. I won’t detail all that has happened to them in the past few months but she just spent Christmas with her parents, apart from Toben and their daughters! I don’t understand this in the slightest, despite her revelation that the girls don’t want to be around her anymore. As any mother could imagine, this has just about broken her heart. I cried when I read it. I wish I knew how to reach Toben so I could give him a piece of my mind.
