I have a bookworm here. There are times when he’s reading silently and I’ll ask him to do something and he’ll get up, walk across the room, and do what I’ve asked – all while his nose is still between the pages of the book.

I can’t get upset with him, because that’s exactly what I did when I was a kid. I was a voracious reader and found more friends in the pages of books than in real life because of my introversion. I read a lot now, but more of my reading is online than in paper books. I’m not really sure how I feel about that, and yet it seems to continue trending in that direction.

Anyhow, I was just directed to Border’s Double Dog Dare summer reading program.  Kids who use their form and read a minimum of ten books (any books, not just ones purchased at Borders) can bring in the filled-out form and receive a free book.  I’m excited about this, because Brendan will easily plow through ten books – probably by the end of June.  😉

I love these programs. They make me happy. I’ve got a house full of readers, so we’re always on the lookout for free books.

By the by, I still thank God that I found PaperBackSwap.com when I did. That place has supplied more books than I can count around here. Plus, it’s been great for teaching the kids to pass on what they enjoy. Good for all of us!

I love PBS too, Alise! :) I’ve gotten some bummers over there from unscrupulous members, but honestly – it’s free, so I really can’t complain that much. 😉
