…valiant, hail to the conquering heroes, hail! hail! to Michigan, the champions and the best! πŸ˜€

Okay, so it’s a bit over the top, but I’m happy to report that we pulled out the victory in the Michigan-Michigan State game. :::phew!:::

Even if it had been a loss, it would have been a successful party. I had my first official football party in Dexter today, and it was fun. I made my traditional pot ‘o chili, and because the event coincided with Mark’s birthday, we had a ridiculously rich chocolate cake, too. We had a load of firewood delivered on Thursday and had a nice roaring fire going (I think today’s high was right about 50F), and had 9 adults, 5 small children, and one baby. The baby was raptly watching the game on the floor and we all shouted and cheered at one of the Michigan touchdowns, scaring this poor child to pieces. πŸ˜₯

It was a bit traumatic for her, to be in the presence of such football nuts, but she managed to recover pretty quickly. πŸ˜‰

So now as we sit here and unwind, I realize how fantastic this house is. The family room is amazing, the fireplace totally adds to the ambiance of the room, and the kids had plenty of room to run around and play upstairs while we adults were intently watching and shouting at the television. πŸ˜‰

I’m so glad we’re here!

I can’t think of many places I’d rather be in the fall than in Michigan, and the afterglow from the game makes it that much better. :)

As an aside: I was tickled to death when the guy who delivered our firewood and I were chatting and he said these glorious words, “You’re what…22, 24? Oh, you’ll see when you get older…” πŸ˜€ That’s even better than my current (and static) age of 29! And it means that Mark robbed the cradle even more than I allege! πŸ˜€ .

    Sorry, Jen–

the chili recipe is a closely-guarded secret. As in I’ll-make-it-for-you-but-I-won’t-tell-you-what’s-in-it. Mostly b/c I’ve won 2 blue, 1 red, and 1 white ribbons for it, and there are a lot of ticked-off Texans out there, gunnin’ for me. After all, a humble Yankee BEAT THEM at MAKING CHILI!! They’re ticked and I’m hiding. πŸ˜‰
