We started out the day slowly–it was drizzly and chilly. Not altogether bad for a fall day, but one that makes you want to snuggle in your jammies with a cup of joe and enjoy the warmth in front of you. πŸ˜‰

Brendan & I drove out to the Frosty Apple and picked up apples (Empire) to take home–oh my…completely worth the short drive out there. They are soooo good! Fresh, crispy, and tart-sweet. Yum! Then we hiked in Dolph Park in Ann Arbor this afternoon–it was still drizzly and chilly, but under the cover of the trees and leaves, it didn’t bother us at all. I taught him about moss, lichen, mushrooms, and berries–and we took tons of pictures along the way.

None of which turned out (at all!)–yesterday for the bumpy ride on the haywagon, I switched to shutter-priority on the camrea, which sets the shutter speed at an incredible 1/8000th of a second. Great for shooting pictures with a long lens (what I’ll use when I have the 70-300mm on) or in situations where you and camera get jostled a lot, but really bad for taking pictures in a wooded area with low clouds and treetops overhead. :( Seriously bad–everything was nearly *black* when I downloaded them. Even adjusting them didn’t help–they looked somewhat lighter, but the colour was off and the resolution was similar to a scan of a really old photo that shows all the lines, scratches, and imperfections in the picture. So no pictures of our hike. Ah well…next year. :)

But I made sure to switch the camera back to program-mode for this afternoon and evening when we carved pumpkins. Pictures are posted at the Flickr account (see the badge to the right of the post), and as you can see from the pic in this post, they turned out well. :) I am so tickled with the photo of the pumpkin shown here…see if you can figure it out. πŸ˜‰ It shows exactly what a geek I am and what an odd sense of humour I have (Mark says “warped, Sue, warped”), but it still makes me giggle like crazy. πŸ˜‰.

Good job, Sarah! πŸ˜‰ Or “pumpkin pie” as the vernacular would have it. πŸ˜†
