I found another great resource for those who are homeschooling a preschooler or kindergartener. My friend Jenny (who is a public school teacher) told me about First School , but due to her pregnant condition, she couldn’t remember the URL. So I hunted around for it today and came across it. There are wonderful craft and themes for young children specific to letters, animals, colouring pages, holidays & events, etc. Printables as well as ideas for creating your own curriculum, which is what I’m doing this year. :)

On another (similar) note, I’ve pretty solidly decided to use Sonlight’s curriculum next year. :) I have been reading through the catalog in my spare time (ha!), and came across their ‘checklist’ for deciding on a curriculum. There were 10 questions and they indicated that if you checked ‘no’ on 5 or more questions, they probably weren’t the right curriculum for you, and vice-versa. I checked all 10 questions ‘yes,’ so it’s pretty clear what is going to be a good fit. It’s also somewhat gratifying to realize that the books I’ve been collecting (some of my favourites from when I was a kid) are on this literature-rich curriculum, albeit a few years down the road. So I really like that–the books I have been collecting are classics (E.B. White’s books, C.S. Lewis, and J.D. Fitzgerald’s “The Great Brain” series) and generally just ‘good literature.’ This also fits very well with our desire to teach our kids that all truth is God’s truth, whether or not it’s found in inherently “Christian writing” or not. I’m not going to shell out for the preschool curriculum, as I mentioned, but for the Kindergarten stuff, I’ll start collecting the books this year and will buy the material in 2007. :) I’m excited and a bit relieved to have made this decision–it just feels really good to have it ‘checked off’ on my list of things to think about and do. 😉.

When we used Sonlight my kids LOVED it and begged for more every day. I hope you have the same happy results. :)
