I posted a while ago that I had started taking cinnamon supplements as an herbal way of dealing with my polycystic ovaries (PCOS). And that at the time, I was having good success with them–no overt problems and cheap enough to monkey around with the doseage and feel good.

So the update is overdue. And my verdict is that THIS STUFF IS GREAT! Cinnamon supplements have assisted me in (so far) losing 25 lbs and regulating my cycle. And for those of us cysters who struggle with this condition, you know what a big deal that truly is. 😀 Initially, I was seeing cycles at about 5-6 weeks apart, but the last one was actually ovulatory. Which takes my total (lifetime) ovulation up to 6 or 7. And seeing as ovulation isn’t something I seem to know how to do regularly, I’ll take whatever I can get. This cycle was 27 days (!!!) AND ovulatory [okay, total ovulations = 8], which is UNHEARD OF for cysters not taking pharmaceutical treatment for the condition.

I’m now taking 2000mg with lunch and dinner and haven’t had an insulin spike since I started taking the stuff. Apparently, 4000mg per day is a good level for me. It’s cheap (I generally spend about $10/month on the supplements), and am about to try some from Puritan’s Pride. They’re having a ‘buy 1 get 2 free’ sale through September, so it’s silly not to give it a whirl.

Anyhow, for those who are seeking to treat their PCOS, this may be the answer for you. You cannot take too much or hurt yourself with it, as it’s water soluble and you won’t have a build-up in your system (or in your liver–very important!) like with other treatments and remedies. I’m feeling more “normal” than I have in a long time. And that’s worth the price of the supplement, by far. :).
